Weekend shooting kills man, 24, in east Fort Worth

FORT WORTH -- A 24-year-old man was killed late Saturday after he was shot multiple times while riding in a car with his brother.

Homicide Sgt. J.D. Thornton said Bobby Mitchell and his brother had been traveling north on New York Avenue near Baker Street about 11:15 p.m. when a second car -- described only as a tan or silver sedan -- came up quickly from behind.

“Numerous shots were fired from behind at the victim’s vehicle,” Thornton said. “Multiple shots entered the car and struck the victim several times.”

The brother, who had been driving, was not struck. He drove his injured brother to a friend’s house in the 1000 block of Judd Street, where police were called.

Mitchell was taken to John Peter Smith hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:51 p.m. from gunshot wounds to the head and abdomen area, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office.

The slaying remained under investigation Monday.

Anyone with information about the shooters’ identities is asked to call the homicide unit at 817-392-4330 or Crime Stoppers at 817-469-TIPS.
