Springtime accent pieces liven up outdoor decor

Spring is upon us, and it's time to perk up your porch or patio. Add something dramatic -- a new wicker chair, an accent table -- or something smaller but significant -- a colorful pillow, a pretty planter. Welcome the season, and your guests, with some of these great finds from local stores.

1. Planter perfect

Turquoise is Pantone's color of the year. Give your outdoor area a pop of serene blue with this planter. We like it filled with a ball of preserved boxwood. Planter, $38; boxwood, $42. The Pink Hanger, 55 Main St., Suite 110, Colleyville, 817-503-9753.

2. One if by land ...

Light your pathway or flank your porch rail with a wooden lantern and pillar candle (citronella candle sold separately). Small lantern, $30; other sizes available. Pier 1 Imports, multiple locations.

3. On the lamb

This little lamb won't follow you anywhere, but it will add a touch of whimsy to your porch or patio. It's a great garden statue that can be pulled into service to hold a door open. $89.95, Into the Garden, 4600 Dexter Ave., Fort Worth, 817-336-4686.

4. Table it

Accent tables are a must for your glass or book and add a splash of color as well. This one from Pier 1 features bright tiles in primary colors. $79.95. Pier 1 Imports, multiple locations.

5. Plicker panache

Nothing says spring quite like a white wicker armchair. This plicker version (plastic wicker) is a fabulous find at $69.95. Also available in red, green, light brown and mocha. Pier 1 Imports, multiple locations.

6. Great plates

Everything tastes better when your tray and dishes look appealing. Serve up drinks on this bright yellow square Samba tray, $24.95, and pass the appetizers on Bianca Melamine plates, available in four colors, $4.95 each. Crate & Barrel, 1420 Civic Place, Southlake, 817-421-8003, www.crateandbarrel.com.

7. Pillow talk

Take a touch of the warmth and comfort of home outdoors and people will want to linger. These pillows feature UV and water protection. $12.99. Target, multiple locations and www.target.com.
