A physician at a Dallas hospital remained in the Tarrant County Jail on Tuesday night, five days after he was arrested after his wife said he attempted to kill his infant son and choked her when she tried to stop him.
Dr. Clarence Joseph Wolinski, 30, faces charges of attempted murder and assault of a relative. His total bail is $650,000.
The incident was reported about 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Wolinski's residence in the 4200 block of Calloway Drive, said Thad Penkala, a Mansfield police spokesman.
Wolinski's wife said he was attempting to smother the couple's baby when she tried to stop him, and Wolinski then began choking her, Penkala said. Two people intervened, holding Wolinski until police arrived, Penkala said. The child and mother were treated at the scene, he said.

Wolinski has been an internal medicine resident at the Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas for two years. He has been placed on leave, officials said.
Penkala said Mansfield police have no record of previous disturbances at the house.
