Bay watch on South Padre
It's midwinter but we need something to look forward to, right? And that is usually the arrival of spring. Whether you are planning a spring break getaway or traveling at a less busy time, consider staying in Texas and visiting South Padre Island. There will be several new attractions on the island this year and one of them is Sea Life Safari. This water-based adventure was created by the company that introduced the pirate-themed Black Dragon Cruises to South Padre.
Sea Life Safari gives visitors an overview of the history and ecology of Laguna Madre Bay, as well as bird and marine wildlife. It is narrated by naturalist Diane Henn, who takes you on this two-hour tour that talks about the settlements and explorers who came to this part of the Texas coast. You'll get a glimpse of wildlife ranging from dolphins to the bottom-dwelling marine life, which are collected during the trip, observed in the boat's saltwater observation tank and released unharmed. The tour is offered twice daily on the Osprey, with ticket prices of $22 for adults and $18 for children 12 and younger. Call 956-761-6655 or visit www.ospreycruises.com.
