Here’s what’s new in bookstores this week:
▪ Titans, by Leila Meacham (Grand Central Publishing, $26) — The bestselling San Antonio-based author (Roses, Somerset, Tumbleweeds) delivers another old-fashioned saga with Texas as a backdrop. Set in the early 1900s, it focuses on a cattle ranch heiress (the ranch is near Fort Worth) and a farm boy from another ranch. They’ve got an interesting connection, of course, as the beginning of the oil boom signals a time of transition.
▪ Most Wanted, by Lisa Scottoline (St. Martin’s Press, $27.99) — The award-winning and bestselling author offers a thriller about a woman who thinks her sperm donor may be a serial killer. Now, her husband doesn’t want the baby, but she’s determined to find out whether the accused is innocent. The author will sign her new book at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Dallas Barnes & Noble, 7700 W. Northwest Highway, 214-739-1124.
▪ The Last Voyageurs, by Lorraine Boissoneault (Pegasus, $27.95) — The author uses dual narratives to tell the stories of French explorer La Salle’s 3,300-mile trip from Montreal to the mouth of the Mississippi in 1680 and an Illinois high school French teacher’s quest to re-create the trek in 1976. The modern explorers, in period garb, included 16 high school students and six teachers on an eight-month adventure of a lifetime.
