Candace Payne, the Grand Prairie mom who gained fame a couple of weeks ago as “Chewbacca Mom” after she posted a Facebook video of herself cracking up after putting on a Chewbacca mask, continues her run as Wookiee of the Year.

Payne’s video went crazy viral, and at this writing has racked up 154 million views on Facebook alone, which isn’t to mention the YouTube hits the video has received when it was picked up by other sites.

Since then, Payne has gone to Disney World, sung Carpool Karaoke with James Corden, met The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams and inspired ... well, just Google “Chewbacca Mom” (or click here) to see all the stories and think pieces she has inspired. (She and her family were also offered scholarships to Southeastern University in Florida, per nbcdfw.com.)

During her appearance on The Late Late Show With James Corden, Payne got a surprise from Peter Mayhew, the original Chewbacca of the Star Wars movies: Mayhew sent an email to the show, calling Payne an “inspiration” and saying that he would meet her at Fan Expo Dallas, the big comic/pop-culture convention this weekend at the Dallas Convention Center.

Mayhew, who lives in Boyd, just a little northwest of Fort Worth, has appeared at previous Dallas cons. So this is home for him as well as for Payne. He’s scheduled for a celebrity Q&A session at 11 a.m. Sunday, and Payne is scheduled to meet him face to face, or fur to fur, for the first time.

Payne will also be available in the autograph hall to pose for selfies for $20. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Oaks Fellowship All-In initiative.

Mayhew isn’t the only original Star Wars cast member scheduled to appear this weekend. Anthony Daniels, aka C3PO, is scheduled to appear. Carrie Fisher was originally scheduled, but her appearance has been postponed.
