Pentatonix — the a cappella quintet founded by Arlington’s Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying and Kirstin Maldonado —made their breakthrough on reality TV, winning season three of NBC’s The Sing-Off. Now it’s time for some scripted television.
Grassi, Hoying and Maldonado will all appear in this Thursday’s episode of Bones, the long-running, quirky Fox procedural. In the episode, titled “The Strike in the Chord,” forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and her team investigate the death of the leader of a male a cappella group called the Whippersnaps.
Grassi and Hoying play members of the group, and Maldonado plays a member of a rival female a cappella group called the Ginger Snaps. (Pentatonix group is rounded out by Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola, neither of whom are in the cast list for the episode).
Bones is known for its sense of humor, as is evidenced in this sneak preview, which includes an amusing little snippet of Grassi and Hoying’s characters (both suspects!) reacting to interrogation.
