Free Food (and Wine): Taste Addison (May 21-23)

It's my favorite time of the year (well, except my namesake season of course), but it's Festival Time in North Texas! And my favorite one of all - Taste Addison.

If you have never been to Taste Addison - it is a three-day weekend of food, fun and festivities for everyone. With more than 60 restaurants lined up to provide some HUGE meal items at some pretty low prices (Chamberlain's Famous Pork Chop is only $6 and for every pound they sell, they are giving $1 to Special Olympics, it is the best way to get some delicious food from all types of cuisines available in Addison.

However, if you are pretty crafty, there are a couple of great free food opportunities at the event as well at the Taste Showcase. Several of Addison's best chefs will have recipe demonstrations (and samplings) on Saturday and Sunday so you can munch on these bite-sized delights. One of other fave features at Taste Showcase is Robert Mondavi's Discover Wine where the winery has brought Napa Valley to Texas with a beautiful set all while providing free wine seminars (and yep, you guessed it - sampling). And it doesn't hurt, that my favorite foodie, TV's Ted Allen, will be giving his own free seminar on Friday at 8 p.m.

Once you are done over at Taste Showcase, you can head the clan over to the Family Fun Zone. There's all the the things that you know the kids love like bouncehouses, face painting, carnival rides, midway games, live animals and clowns, but so much more. Check out this year's kids musical - The Stinky Cheese Man, which has two showtimes daily on Saturday and Sunday.

And if you want to score free admission, the bring your 4-12 year old to the UBL Wranglers Basketball Dribbling Clinic on Saturday from noon - 1 p.m. Kids will join players from several UBL teams to get first-hand tips. An if they bring their own basketball during this time, they get free admission. And if the whole family shows up before 5 p.m., your ticket is only $5 each.

So see there - you can stretch $20 to go a long way! Check at the

Taste Addison

website for more information about all the great things to do. And my tip to you is to check out the menus that are listed on the site and you can map out what you are going to eat and how much, so you can create a budget for a fun weekend with the family for close to nothing!

(Did I mention that Train plays on Saturday?)

See you at Taste Addison!
