A former top doctor at John Peter Smith Hospital who was caught with child pornography voluntarily surrendered his physician’s license this month.
James Young-Jin Shin was among 57 licensed doctors disciplined since the Dec. 11-12 meeting of the Texas Medical Board, officials announced Thursday.
Shin was sentenced last month to three and a half years in prison and a lifetime of supervised release. Because he is not a U.S. citizen, the South Korean native will also likely be deported, authorities have said.
Shin pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography in July, almost a year after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent acting on a tip went to Shin’s Southlake home and found the images on his computer.

The doctor had been looking at child pornography and collecting videos and images for four years, authorities said.
Shin went to work at JPS in January 1998 and, by October 2005, was chairman of the internal medicine department. He resigned in May 2008.
Shin was never cited for quality-of-care issues, a hospital official has said.
