Gunman robs gas station in west Fort Worth

A gunman in a dark hooded sweatshirt, black jeans and white sneakers robbed a gas station late Wednesday in west Fort Worth, police said.

A holdup alarm alerted police about 10:15 p.m. at the Valero store, 3001 Alta Mere Drive, west of Z Boaz Golf Course, said Lt. Paul Henderson, police spokesman.

A woman told arriving officers that she was working alone when the man entered the store with a handgun pointed at her. He got behind the counter and ordered the clerk to open the cash registers, Henderson said.

"He grabbed a handful of cash and then ordered the employee to lie down on the floor," Henderson said.

The man then walked out of the store with an unknown amount of money.

"Fortunately," Henderson added, "the clerk was not harmed."

The gunman, according to the clerk, was black, 5-feet-7-inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds, Henderson said.

Anyone with information about the crime can call robbery detectives at 817-392-4370 or Crime Stoppers at 817-469-TIPS, Henderson said.
