Explosion kills Weatherford soldier in Iraq

A 26-year-old Army sergeant from North Texas was killed last week in an explosion in Mosul, Iraq, according to a Defense Department announcement on Tuesday.

Sgt. John J. Savage, 26, whose hometown is listed as Weatherford, died in the enemy attack last Thursday. Also killed was Staff Sgt. Solomon T. Sam, 31, of Majuro, Marshall Islands.

Savage belonged to an engineering company based at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
