ARLINGTON -- An Arlington teen died early Saturday when the truck in which he was a passenger left the roadway and struck two trees before coming to rest upside down in the backyard of a private residence, according to authorities.
Craig Stepina, 19, of Arlington was a passenger in a 2002 Ford F-150 traveling northbound in the 2800 block of Perkins Road when the accident occurred about 1:15 a.m., a police report said.
The pickup, driven by Rowdy Lee Short, 17, of Arlington struck a curb after crossing into the oncoming lanes of traffic, then struck a tree, plowed through a wooden fence and a stand of bamboo, then hit another tree before flipping over, the report said.
The driver was able to crawl from the truck and was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital. The cause of the accident is under investigation. This is the 27th traffic fatality in Arlington this year.
