Officials identify man fatally hurt on I-30 in Fort Worth

Police believe a man may have been fatally struck by a vehicle some time overnight on Interstate 30 in west Fort Worth, according to reports.

The victim, Michael Velmer, 59, of Fort Worth, was identified by the Tarrant County medical examiner's office.

A passerby saw the man at about 1:20 a.m. lying in the roadway of eastbound I-30 at the exit ramp for Bryant Irvin Boulevard, said Lt. Paul Henderson, police spokesman.

"The man appears to have been hit by a vehicle which obviously did not stop," Henderson said.

The man, he added, had suffered severe injuries and "a watch, hat, and other belongings were scattered about the scene."

An ambulance took the man to Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital, but he could not be saved, Henderson said.
