City Councilman Chuck Silcox, who is fighting cancer, was hospitalized during the weekend and his condition worsened Monday, a police spokesman said.
Silcox, the council's longest-serving member, was treated for prostate cancer in 2007. However, he announced in April that symptoms had returned.
Silcox was taken to the hospital Sunday night and, on Monday, was surrounded by family members, said Lt. Paul Henderson, a police spokesman, in a statement released Monday evening.
"He is engaged in the fight for his life," Henderson said.
