HALTOM CITY -- A bloody motorist fled an accident scene early Monday after his car smashed into a bedroom of a home early Monday, injuring a couple who had been asleep, police said.
But police found the driver a few blocks away after they discovered a Fort Worth police citation with his address on it inside of the car and followed a bloody trail to his home on Fossil Ridge Drive.
The driver was being treated at Harris Methodist Fort Worth hospital for a head injury, but his condition was unavailable. An arrest warrant was expected to be issued for the 30-year-old Haltom City man, police said.
The sleeping couple, Ben Larmouth, 54, and his wife, Sarah Larmouth, 45, managed to crawl through the debris, police said. They were taken to the same Fort Worth hospital and remained there Monday afternoon. Their injuries were not life-threatening, police said.
The accident happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. in the 4200 block of Woodgate Drive.
A car traveling at a high rate of speed was westbound on Fossil Ridge Drive when the driver lost control of his vehicle, Haltom City police Sgt. Terry Stayer said Monday.
The car hit two curbs and then smashed into the house on Woodgate Drive, Stayer said.
“The mattress protected the couple,” Stayer said. “The woman managed to walk out of the room while her husband managed to get some debris off of him.”
Meanwhile, the motorist ran away from the scene, police said.
But within an hour, police using the citation to track down the driver to his home, police said. Police also tracked the trail of blood from the accident scene to a home on Fossil Ridge Drive, authorities said.
