A 10-year-old boy was struck and killed by a Dallas police squad car as he was riding his bicycle in far north Dallas Friday night, police said in a statement today.
Cole Berardi of Dallas was trying to cross the four-lane street in the 2600 block of South Belt Line Road about 7:40 p.m. when Senior Cpl. Michael Vaughn, leaving one call and responding to another, rounded a curve heading north and hit him. A second officer arrived and the two tried to revive the child using CPR, police said.
The boy was taken by ambulance to Baylor hospital, where he died, the police statement said.
Police described Belt Line as a four-lane major thoroughfare with no sidewalks and low lighting.
