A 54-year-old man is in a Dallas jail facing two charges of intoxication manslaughter after police say he struck and killed a woman and her 1-year-old granddaughter Saturday.
Kimberly Deshon Robinson, 38, and granddaughter Taliyah Banks were walking on a sidewalk in the 3900 block of East Overton Road in Oak Cliff about 7:30 p.m. Saturday when they were struck by a Ford Taurus, police said. They were carried about 20 yards before being thrown to the ground, according to Sr. Cpl. Kevin Janse, a police spokesman.
Both were transported to the hospital and pronounced dead from blunt force trauma, Janse said. Police have not released the child's name.
The driver of the Taurus, 54-year-old Ellis Haywood Jr., was detained by what police described as a "rather hostile crowd" at the scene.

He was treated at the scene for injuries and remains in jail with bail set at $70,000.
A passenger in the car, Kenny Haywood, was also arrested on suspicion of public intoxication, Janse said. Police haven't determined the relationship between the men.
