Man killed as car hits light pole in north Fort Worth

A 22-year-old man died early Sunday when the car he was driving hit a light pole in north Fort Worth, police said.

Victor Lopez-Cruz of North Richland Hills was identified by the Tarrant County medical examiner's office.

The accident happened at about 3:45 a.m. in the 100 block of East Northside Drive, said Sgt. Rodney Bangs, supervisor of the traffic investigation unit.

The man was eastbound in a 1995 Honda Accord, Bangs said.

"According to witnesses, he was traveling at a very high rate of speed," Bangs said. "He hit a dip in the roadway at the intersection with North Main Street, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and strike a light post."

The man died at the scene, Bangs said.

He added that there was no evidence of alcohol at the scene of the wreck, and it appeared that speed was what caused it.
