Soldier with North Texas ties killed in Afghanistan

A soldier with ties to North Texas died last week in Afghanistan, officials announced Monday.

Staff Sgt. Brandon Wade Farley, 30, died Thursday at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan from injuries he suffered the day before when his mounted patrol was attacked by enemy forces, according to Fort Hood officials.

Farley was from Haworth, Okla. His mother is an Arlington resident, and he has an uncle in Grand Prairie.

The attackers used small arms and rocket-propelled grenades, a news release stated.

Farley entered the U.S. Army in 1999 as an infantryman. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, since April 2007.
