2 people injured in North Richland Hills wreck

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- A truck and another vehicle were racing down Airport Freeway early Wednesday when the pickup hit a car and then veered off the highway and smashed into a tree, police said.

The truck driver, a 23-year-old Keller resident, was critically injured, police said. He was taken by helicopter ambulance to Harris Methodist Fort Worth hospital. His condition was unavailable.

A man in the car that was hit was taken to the same Fort Worth hospital. His condition was unavailable.

The wreck happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. in the 8700 block of the westbound lanes of Airport Freeway.

Witnesses told police that the truck and another vehicle were involved in some type of race down Airport Freeway.

At some point, the pickup came up behind a Chrysler and hit the back of it, causing the car to veer off the road, police said.

On impact, the driver of the truck lost control of his vehicle and veered off the highway and struck a tree, police said.

The other vehicle involved in the race did not stop, police said.
