Clerk shot in apparent robbery of Fort Worth convenience store

A 20-year-old convenience store clerk was shot during an apparent robbery and taken to John Peter Smith hospital late Friday.

The condition of the victim, Hamd Mohammad, was unknown early Saturday.

Police arrested David Glen Smith, 24, who is facing a charge of aggravated robbery and was booked into the Tarrant County Jail.

Police responded to the shooting at the Hattie Food Store in the 1100 block of East Hattie Street about 11:15 p.m., police said in a statement.

Witnesses told police they heard several shots ring out while Mohammad was working behind the store counter. After hearing the shots, the witnesses said they went to the front of the store to see what was happening, and they saw a man standing behind the counter with a gun. The suspect yelled at them to get into the cooler and ran from the store, police said.

Police were able to trace the suspect to a four-plex in the 1300 block of Hattie Street, where they found him hiding under the bed.

Police recovered a stack of cash and other evidence from the apartment, police said.
