FORT WORTH -- A couple found dead Thursday by their sons from an apparent murder-suicide have been identified as retired physician Jerry J. Chase and his estranged wife, Berlene Chase.
The couple, both 70, had been separated about two years and were going through a divorce, police say.
Homicide Sgt. J.D. Thornton said investigators believe Berlene Chase had gone to her estranged husband’s home in the 4700 block Slipper Rock Drive on Tuesday to assist him with some financial tasks. During the visit, investigators believe Jerry Chase shot his wife, and then turned the gun on himself.
The couple’s sons discovered their bodies about 6:30 p.m. Thursday after going to their father's home and spotting their mother's car parked in the driveway. Thornton said the sons had become concerned after trying to repeatedly reach their mother and learning that she had not shown up at her job at Costco.
