Woman jailed on arson charge after trailer fire

Betty Branson of Haltom City was being held Monday after a fire that appears to have resulted from a domestic disturbance.

The blaze was reported shortly before midnight at a trailer park in the 5300 block of Dana Lynn Drive on the city's north side, said Deputy Fire Chief Fred Napp, who is also the fire marshal.

Firefighters pulled a man to safety after he was apparently overcome by smoke while battling the flames with a garden hose, Napp said.

He nearly extinguished the fire, which was confined to the living room area, Napp said

Firefighters found him near the front door of the trailer home. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance, although Napp did not know his medical condition on Monday.

The fire marshal said he was sorting through witness statements on Monday, but the witnesses indicated that the fire started during a domestic disturbance inside the trailer home.

Branson was charged with arson. Her bail was set at $50,000, and she remained in custody on Monday afternoon.
