A detention officer injured Wednesday when she was attacked by three inmates trying to escape from a Tarrant County jail remained hospitalized Thursday.
The condition of Teresa A. Otterman, an 11-year veteran of the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department, is improving, according to a news release Thursday.
Otterman and fellow officer Michael H. Thompson were beaten Wednesday by three inmates -- one of whom was armed with a self-made shank -- who had been brought to a gym for recreation. Sheriff's officials have said they believe the attack was planned. Two maintenance workers who had come to the floor to pick up some supplies were also assaulted in the attack.
The three inmates were overpowered by other officers and never made it off the floor, sheriff's officials have said.
