Lancaster man arrested in Arlington robberies

ARLINGTON — A Lancaster man suspected of stealing cartons of cigarettes from convenience stores across North Texas is being held on suspicion of robbery.

Ocie Lewis, 53, was arrested in Dallas and is being held in the Arlington Jail with bail set at $75,000.

Lewis is accused of three convenience store robberies in Arlington since May. Police say he would take a garbage bag behind the store's counter, threaten the clerk and then fill the bag with cartons of cigarettes.

"Over the years, businesses that sell cigarettes have moved the displays to more secure areas behind the counters," said Lt. Blake Miller, an Arlington police spokesman. "This has reduced the number of cigarette thefts, but has not eliminated them."

Lewis is also a suspect in similar robberies in Carrollton, Lewisville, Coppell, Irving and Dallas, Miller said.
