A body in an advanced stage of decomposition was found in a vacant lot Friday, and officials are trying to determine the identity of the remains and how the person died.
A Kennedale resident called authorities about 11:15 a.m. after seeing the body under a tree in the 6800 block of Hudson Village Creek Road.
At this point, authorities are unsure of the sex, age and ethnicity of the deceased person. The body appears to have been in the field for several days, police said.
It is not known whether the person was killed at the site or if the body was moved to the location, according to Tommy Williams, Kennedale police chief. The cause of death was not immediately apparent because of the decomposition, Williams said.
