Grapevine police seek man who left accident scene

GRAPEVINE -- Police continued their search Thursday morning for a young man who walked away from a Wednesday night traffic accident that left two teens critically injured.

Investigators believe the young man was a passenger in a 1999 Ford Explorer that crashed on Texas 26 near Fairway Drive.

An 18-year-old who police believe was the driver and a 16-year-old passenger were taken by helicopter ambulance to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas in critical condition. Their condition was unavailable Thursday morning.

A 19-year-old passenger was taken to Baylor Medical Center at Grapevine with non-life threatening injuries, police said Thursday.

Police did not release the identities of any of the victims.

Two of the victims were trapped in the vehicle for several minutes before firefighters freed them from the Explorer, police said.

The accident happened shortly after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 1500 block of N. Texas 26.

The Explorer was southbound when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll over and end up against a tree, police said. Police had not determined what caused the driver to lose control.

The police report also does not indicate if the young men were wearing seat belts.
