Arlington's $198 million budget won't include tax-rate increase

City manager Jim Holgersson’s proposed $198 million budget includes more firefighters and code compliance officers and a four-person team to oversee public safety at special events, such as football games at the new Dallas Cowboys stadium.

Plans also included an extra $500,000 for park maintenance, opening the southeast branch library on Sundays and a one-time 1.5 percent bonus for city employees.

The City Council is not expected to increase Arlington’s property tax rate, which has stayed the same since 2003.

The council has until next month to approve the budget for next fiscal year, which starts Oct. 1.
