Dallas police investigate whether child left in hot car

DALLAS -- An 18-month-old girl was pronounced dead Monday afternoon at Children's Medical Center in Dallas after a man took her to an Oak Cliff fire station for help, police said.

Police are trying to determine whether the girl was left in a hot vehicle, said Lt. Vernon Hale, a Dallas police spokesman.

The girl was unresponsive when the 30-year-old man took her to Fire Station 33, 745 W. Illinois Ave., about 3:30 p.m., Hale said. Dallas Fire Rescue workers immediately took her to Children's.

Police are awaiting a ruling by the medical examiner on the cause of death. No charges have been filed. Police said they had no further information late Monday.
