A Denton County jail prisoner, who was awaiting trial in the death of a former girlfriend, died early Tuesday after he appeared to have a seizure, a sheriff's spokesman said.
Patrick Thomas Dyson, 26, of Hickory Creek, died at Denton Regional Medical Center after jailers found him shortly after 1 a.m. in apparent distress, said Tom Reedy, the spokesman.
"The cause of his death has not yet been determined pending an autopsy," Reedy said.
On Dec. 5, investigators believe he fatally shot Vanessa Garces, 21, as she returned home to a gated community near Copper Canyon.
According to reports, he rammed her car with his pickup, then he got out and shot her multiple times, investigators said.
Police and deputies, acting on tips from witnesses, located Dyson at his home in Hickory Creek, where they found him seated in the truck threatening to shoot himself with a pistol.
Several hours passed until SWAT pumped gas into the truck and arrested Dyson, officials said. He had been in jail since then.
