Graffiti tagged, words exchanged; 1 man killed in Fort Worth

FORT WORTH -- One man is dead and another critically wounded Friday after a shooting incident late Thursday at a west Fort Worth apartment complex, police said.

The shooting happened around 11 p.m. at the Spanish View Apartments, 2805 Broadmoor Drive, police said. The location is southeast of the intersection of Interstate 30 and Las Vegas Trail.

"Alleged gang members (were) going around tagging graffiti at the complex and on some vehicles parked there," said Lt. Paul Henderson, police spokesman.

Earlier reports indicated that there were three suspects, but Henderson said later that police believe there were at least five. He did not know if the two victims were in a gang.

"Words were exchanged," Henderson said. "After the argument, the suspects left, then returned and opened fire at the front door of the apartment where the victims were located. They entered the apartment and continued to shoot.

"After they got finished with their trigger business, they fled the scene."

Their vehicle was a Lincoln Town Car, Henderson said.

One man, who was shot in the chest, was taken to Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Henderson said.

The other man, Henderson said, had multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in critical but stable condition, Henderson said.

The victims' names were unavailable Friday morning.

"This is just a horrific example of unnecessary violence," he said, "and we're not going to tolerate it."
