GRAPEVINE -- A handgun was found near the body of an Irving car salesman who was discovered lying in the parking lot of his apartment complex, police said Thursday.

There were no signs of a struggle at the scene of the shooting at the Marina Del Rey Apartments in the 1700 block of Dove Loop Road.

Police identified the man as Ernest Brehme, 59, who died at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas shortly after the shooting.

A resident called police shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday to report hearing a gunshot in the complex.

When officers arrived and searched the complex, police found Brehme lying in the parking lot near his vehicle, Grapevine police Sgt. Larry Hallmark said Thursday.

The handgun was found near his body while another weapon was discovered in his vehicle, police said.

Police declined to provide any additional details on the weapons.

Brehme died of a gunshot wound to the chest, police said.

Hallmark said that Brehme lived alone and he had had dinner with his daughter on Saturday.

Investigators were at the scene Thursday morning, searching for evidence and canvassing the complex.
