SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- A Cal Poly San Luis Obispo fraternity has been suspended because of the possible alcohol-related death of a freshman from Texas after a Sigma Alpha Epsilon party.
An unconscious Carson Starkey of Austin was taken from a residence Tuesday morning to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, where the 18-year-old died. The teenager had attended a fraternity party at the home.
California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, officials and the national SAE have now suspended the fraternity chapter until further notice.
University police, sheriff and coroner's investigators are examining the role of alcohol in the teenager's death.
