Man fatally hurt Sunday in Fort Worth wreck identified

Officials have released the name of the man who died Sunday evening from injuries he received in a single-vehicle wreck in the 3600 block of Hemphill Street.

Gregorio Gonzalez, 26, was identified by Sgt. Rodney Bangs, supervisor of the Fort Worth Police Traffic Investigation Unit.

He died at John Peter Smith Hospital following the wreck around 9 p.m. Sunday, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's office.

The medical examiner identified him as Gregorio Mendoza, but Bangs said his proper last name is Gonzalez.

The wreck happened about a mile south of Hemphill Street's intersection with West Berry Street.

Gonzalez, Bangs said was driving a green Suburban that was northbound on Hemphill when he lost control.

The vehicle struck a gate-door to parking lot and Gonzalez was partially ejected.

Police believe he was speeding, Bangs said. He added that a toxicology report will determine if he had also been drinking.
