Fort Worth police chase ends in fiery crash but no injuries

A chase through a north Fort Worth neighborhood ended in a fiery crash with the suspect briefly trapped inside late Sunday, a police supervisor said.

The man, whose name police didn’t release, rammed a garage door during a domestic disturbance at a home in the 5900 block of Ravenya Street and took off, said Lt. Glenn Verrett, a police supervisor.

Police caught up with him on Cromwell Marine Creek Road, Verrett said, and chased him to about the 5900 block of Bowman Roberts Road.

That’s where police said the man lost control of his pickup.

“He came this way and ended up taking out three utility poles and catching his truck on fire,” Verrett said.

Police had a hard time getting him out of his vehicle at first.

Officers “were trying desperately to get him out, but they couldn’t open [the truck] up without his help,” Verrett said.

He eventually opened the door, letting himself out of the truck, and was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in police custody.

Verrett said he wasn’t injured but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
