Slow down, fasten your seat belt and don't drive drunk.
That's the message coming from the Texas Department of Public Safety this Thanksgiving.
"We want you to get to your destination safely," Col. Stan Clark, interim DPS director, said in a statement. "Be patient. There will be a lot of other families traveling, and traffic is likely to be congested."
From Wednesday to Sunday during last year's Thanksgiving holiday, DPS troopers were busier than usual. Here's a look at their work, by the numbers:
10,426: citations written for speeding
1,026: citations written for seat belt violations
400: arrests made for driving while intoxicated
358: citations written for child restraint violations
34: minors arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol
