Reward offered to catch hammer-wielding killer in Dallas

A reward has been offered to help solve the murder of an elderly Dallas man who died Thursday after he was severely beaten with a hammer four days earlier, police said.

Schepps Dairy will pay $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and grand jury indictment of whoever killed 75-year-old Delbert Wayne Parr, according to statements from the business and Dallas police.

Investigators believe Parr was attacked at 8:45 p.m. Monday outside his home in the 4500 block of Wyoming Street, said Senior Cpl. Kevin Janse, Dallas police spokesman.

Parr had just cashed his $1,400 Social Security check when he was attacked, Janse said.

No one saw the attack, but his wife said that he stumbled into the house, covered with his own blood and calling her name. She called for help and Parr was taken to Methodist Medical Center in Dallas where he died Thursday, Janse said.

Parr had been struck on the side of the head. Investigators believe a metal claw hammer found outside his home was the murder weapon, Janse said.

Anyone with information about the attack can call investigators at 214-283-4789 or 214-671-3661.
