Teen assaults administrator at Birdville High School

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- A 16-year-old boy was detained by authorities Thursday morning after he walked into Birdville High School, smoked some marijuana in a hallway and then assaulted an assistant principal who escorted him out of the building, police said.

Before Thursday morning, the North Richland Hills teen had been expelled from the school, police said.

The teen was taken to the Lynn W. Ross Juvenile Detention Center in Fort Worth where he will face charges of delinquent conduct-assault and criminal trespass.

The assistant principal was not seriously injured, according to police reports.

The incident happened shortly before 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the school, 9100 Mid-Cities Boulevard.

Police said the teen had been expelled on suspicion of the burglary of several vehicles in the school parking lot and criminal trespass.
