Two men were shot early Sunday, one fatally, as they tried to flee three robbers in north Fort Worth, police said.
Jose Gonzalez-Garcia, 27, of Fort Worth was shot in the chest and taken to John Peter Smith Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 3:14 a.m., according to Fort Worth police and the Tarrant County medical examiner.
The second victim, 28-year-old Silvano Gonzalez-Pegueros, suffered a gunshot wound to the left thigh and was also taken to JPS, where he was listed in stable condition Sunday.
Silvano Lopez-Perez, a 36-year-old man who was with them, did not flee and handed over his wallet. He was robbed but wasn't hurt, according to police.
The call was reported at 2:21 a.m. from a private residence in the 3000 block of Ellis Avenue, police said.
Perez told police the incident happened after he, Garcia and Pegueros left a nearby bar at closing time. He said they were confronted by three men, all wearing masks. One of the robbers was holding a handgun and demanded money from the men.
Garcia and Pegueros were shot when they ran toward the back yard of the Ellis Avenue residence, police said.
