Approximately 6,000 customers in the Metroplex were without power as of 11 a.m. today as high winds played havoc with electricity lines in the area.
Oncor Electric Delivery, which distributes electricity to about 3 million customers in North Texas, said outages are scattered around the region as the wind whips trees into power lines. The utility is working to restore power, but problems likely will continue as long as the high winds persist, said Oncor spokeswoman Carol Peters.
"We've been fighting wind and trees on the lines a couple of days now," and the outages tend to be localized, Peters said. She said damage has been reported as far west as Brownwood and Breckenridge as well as in the immediate Fort Worth-Dallas area.
