A 17-year-old Mississippi man has been charged with capital murder in the January shooting of a Dallas Morning News newspaper carrier, police said today.
The teen is charged with the fatal shooting of David Wayne May of Arlington. The 47-year-old was fatally shot in the 2000 block of South Cooper Street in central Arlington at 5:30 a.m. Jan. 21. He had been restocking a newspaper vending machine when he was shot, police said in a news release.
The teen was 16 when May was killed, and police said they cannot release juvenile records. He was arrested April 26 in Mississippi on unrelated Arlington robbery warrants and transferred to the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center on May 8. The teen became a suspect early after the shooting but fled the area to avoid investigators, police said.
