Students in Carroll schools won't have to pay a fee to participate in athletics next year. School district trustees voted late Monday to eliminate Carroll's pay-to-play program.
Previously, students in grades nine to 12 who joined athletics teams had to pay a $100 annual fee. Students in grades seven and eight had to pay $50 per year.
Paying the fee did not guarantee that the student would get playing time, but the fee was refundable if the youngster did not make the team.
The school board made the decision as part of discussions on the district's fiscal 2008-09 budget.
