FORT WORTH -- A longtime defense attorney and judge who died in the hospital on Jan. 25, one day after being hit by a car, died of natural causes, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.
The medical examiner’s office ruled Pete Gilfeather’s death an "accident" caused from “coronary atherosclerosis with plaque hemorrhage.”
Linda Anderson, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner’s office, said plaque buildup in the artery of his heart, not being hit by the car, caused Gilfeather’s death.
Officials have said that Gilfeather, 60, was hit by a car on Jan. 4, as he walked across Weatherford Street to a Tarrant County courthouse. He was taken to an area hospital, but friends and family members said that his injuries did not appear severe at the time.
