Man in Dallas traffic accident dies after jump from bridge

A young man ran from the scene of a motor vehicle accident early Wednesday in southwest Dallas, but he died after jumping from a nearby bridge, police said.

Richard Mauricio Jr., 19, was found below the bridge by Dallas firefighters responding to the accident, 2:30 a.m. in the 4700 block of West Davis Street, according to reports.

The car he was driving, a Honda four-door, had struck another car near the intersection of West Davis Street and Chalk Hill Road, said Senior Cpl. Jerry Monreal, police spokesman.

"Upon the officers' arrival, they were flagged down by a witness who saw (Mauricio) get out of the driver-side door, run and jump off of the north side of bridge on Davis Street," Monreal said.

"DFD responded," he added, "and found him lying on the ground beneath the bridge, but he was deceased already."

The area is several blocks east of the intersection of West Davis Street and Loop 12, also called Walton Walker Boulevard.

Details about the two-vehicle accident were not immediately available, Monreal said.
