Man treated at hospital after fire at vacant Fort Worth home

FORT WORTH -- A man was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation after an early-morning house fire on the city’s east side, officials said.

Firefighters were called at 2:20 a.m. to the fire at a vacant house in the 2900 block of Miller Avenue, about three blocks north of the intersection with East Berry Street.

The home reportedly had no utilities, but the fire appeared to have started in the attic, said Lt. Kent Worley, spokesman for the fire department.

The man was reportedly staying at the house, but it was unclear if he had permission, Worley said.

He was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital, but his medical condition at the hospital was unavailable early Wednesday.

The damage to the home was estimated at $15,000, Worley said.

No other information was immediately available Wednesday morning.
