EULESS -- A Euless police officer fatally shot a dog Wednesday morning that charged him as he and another officer were responding to a domestic dispute on Denton Drive, police said.
Euless Sr. Officer Jermaine Montgomery was given the rest of the day off after the shooting which happened in the 300 block of E. Denton Drive.
No other injuries were reported in the incident that happened about 10:30 a.m.
A neighbor called police after hearing a couple in a verbal argument at a duplex, Euless police Lt. John Williams said Wednesday afternoon.

Montgomery and another officer responded to the call.
At some point, the officers got the husband to come out of the couple’s duplex, Williams said. A Euless officer took the husband to interview him while Montgomery knocked on the door to talk to the wife, Williams said.
“As soon as she opened the door, the dog charged,” Williams said. The dog was a blue healer who the couple described as very protective. “The officer had no other choice.”
No one was arrested in the domestic dispute because it was verbal and no one was physically hurt, police said.
