Fort Worth motel damaged in two-alarm fire

FORT WORTH -- A fire that began in a storage room of a west-side motel Saturday evening touched off a blaze that burned six rooms and caused smoke and water damage in several more.

No one was injured in the fire at the Motel 6 at Interstate 30 and Las Vegas Trail.

The two-alarm fire, reported about 5:45 p.m., drew 10 companies from the Fire Department.

Battalion Chief Paul Rider said that the exact cause remains under investigation, but that a mechanical or electrical problem in a hot-water closet is suspected.

"It started in the ceiling above the big hot-water heaters," Rider said. "There's a light bulb right below where the fire started, so that is the likely origin."
