FORT WORTH — A fire started in a storage room of a westside motel Saturday evening, touching off a blaze that burned six rooms and damaged several more by smoke or water.
No one was injured in the fire at the Motel 6 at Interstate 30 and Las Vegas Trail. The two-alarm fire, reported about 5:45 p.m., drew 10 companies from the fire department.
Battalion Chief Paul Rider said the exact cause is still under investigation but that it is believed to have started by either a mechanical or electrical problem in a hot water closet.
“It started in the ceiling above the big hot-water heaters,” Rider said. “There’s a light bulb right below where the fire started, so that is the likely origin.”
