Two held in Fort Worth hotel clerk's slaying

FORT WORTH -- Two suspects were detained Wednesday in connection with the robbery and fatal shooting of a hotel clerk early Monday.

Jay Allen, 18, was arrested about 4 p.m. Wednesday on a capital murder warrant by members of the U.S. Marshal's task force at a hospital where he was visiting his child's mother, police said. Bail was set at $1 million.

A second suspect, 18-year-old Malcolm Strickland, was arrested on a probation violation warrant later Wednesday night in Amarillo. Homicide Detectives Frank Serra and Curt Brannan were en route to interview Strickland, who is expected to have a capital murder charge filed against him as well.

Michael G. Myers, 59, was found dead shortly before 5 a.m. Monday, less than an hour after guests at the Best Western Inn & Suites reported hearing gunshots.

Surveillance video inside the hotel at 6500 Interstate I-35W captured footage of an armed man walking in the hotel's hallway before leaping over the front counter twice and fleeing with cash.
