Woman killed, man wounded in Grand Prairie shootings

GRAND PRAIRIE -- A young Irving woman was killed and a man was wounded in a shootout late Monday at the Fox Chase Apartments, 1920 W. Tarrant Road.

The location is near Interstate 30 and NW 19th Street.

The dead woman was identified as Bethany Blackwell, 18.

Police Lt. Larry Simmons said details are sketchy but preliminary indications are that Blackwell and two men, at least one of them armed, went to an apartment about 11:30 p.m. with the intent to rob the resident.

Simmons said drugs might be involved.

Shooting broke out between the intruders and the resident, who also was armed, Simmons said.

He said the woman was killed and the unidentified resident of the apartment was wounded in the chest, stomach and arm. He was transported to Dallas Methodist Hospital in critical condition.

Simmons said two men are to be arraigned on charges of capital murder. Bail had not yet been set.
